Attaching a Workflow to a Workflow

Often workflows are related to one another. In some instances one workflow must be completed as part of another. You can attach an existing workflow or create and attach a new workflow. Workflows can also be created and attached automatically if the template you're using is configured to do that. The Attach Workflow action will be unavailable if your User ID does not grant access to this function.

To attach a workflow:

  1. Add a new workflow or access an existing workflow.

  2. Click the Links tab to go to the Links panel.

To attach an existing workflow, select the Attach Workflow action. Search for the workflow you want to attach; when it appears on the Search Results page, select the check box next to it and click the Attach button.

To attach a new workflow, select the Attach New Workflow action. Select a template for the workflow you want to create. The workflow is created and attached. It is assigned to the same user as the parent workflow. To reassign it to another user, click the ID link on the Links panel and then select the Reassign action.

The workflow that you attach to another workflow is considered a child workflow. If you access the child workflow, you'll see the parent workflow to which it's attached on the Links panel. If you attach multiple workflows, they're considered siblings in relation to one another. Attached workflows appear on the Links panel under the Parent, Child, or Sibling section.

A workflow template may be configured to automatically create and attach one or more workflows. When you create a workflow using such a template, links to the attached workflows appear on the Links panel.

All workflow attachment actions appear on the Steps panel.

You can detached linked workflows from the Links panel by selecting the check box next to the workflow you want to detach and then selecting the Detach Workflow action. The Steps panel will show who detached the workflow and when. Note: The Detach Workflow action is only available if your IQ user-ID has been granted access to Security Lock #89.
