Configuring Web Parts

You can configure the appearance and layout of web parts by selecting the Edit icon located in the upper right hand corner of each web part. There are some web parts that also provide additional settings. When you have completed your changes, click the Save button. In addition, you can remove web parts that you don't use, hide those you use occasionally or minimize them like windows. To remove a web part from your My IQ page, click the Edit icon and then click the Delete button. IQ displays a confirmation message. Note: When you delete a web part, you can select it again, however, any configuration settings that you made are not restored. To minimize a web part, click the Minimize icon (i.e. minus sign) located in the upper right hand corner of the web part. You can restore it by clicking the Restore icon (i.e. plus sign).

Appearance

This section of the Property Editor allows you to change the Title, Chrome Type, Direction, Height, and Width of most web parts and whether or not you want to hide the web part.

Title

Used to set the text for the title of the web part. For example, the default tile for the Today's News web part is "Today's News", however, you may want to change this to "Today's Headlines".

Chrome Type

Allows you to select what type of title and/or border option is used.  Click in this field and select Default, Title and Border,  Border Only, Title Only or None.  Note that you may not change the Chrome Type for some web parts.

Direction

Used to select the direction the web part content flows on the My IQ page.  Most of web parts are forced to display in predetermined order.

Height

Allows you to set the height of the web part in pixels.

Width

Used to set the width of the web part and a drop-down to select the units (default is pixels).

Hidden

This check box allows you to indicate whether the web part is hidden.  Hidden items still appear when you select Add WebPart from Catalog, but are hidden from view on your My IQ page.  So, if you configure a web part and then decide you don't want to use it, you can hide it rather than remove it. This way, if you decide to use it at a later time, you can simply restore it without having to reconfigure it again.

Layout

This section of the Property Editor allows you to select the Chrome State, Zone and Zone Index of most web parts.

Chrome State

Gets or sets whether a web part is displayed in a minimized or normal state by default. This is recommended for web parts that are larger in size and are not used frequently.

Zone

Determines where the web part will appear in the My IQ page.  Possible choices are Header, Footer and the columns currently displayed.

Zone Index

The numerical order of a web part within its zone, starting with 0.

Note: You may find it easier to use the Zone and Zone Index settings to relocate a web part instead of draging and droping it, especially when accessing IQ remotely over a slow internet connection. Also, since the Layout view is larger than the Edit view, you may need to scroll down the page in order to drag and drop the web part.  Changing the web part location using the zone settings allows you to accomplish the same result by just entering where you want to move it.

Additional Settings

In addition to the appearance and layout options, the following web parts provide additional configuration settings that are web part specific: Image Link, My Schedule, My Work, Recent People, Mail and Workflow, RSS Feed, Top Issues and Workflow Types, weather.com, Web Capture, Web Page and Web Searches.

Image Link

URL to Image Type the complete URL of the location of the image, beginning with http://.

Text for Link (if no image) Type text here, if you would like to create a link using text instead of an image.

URL to Web Page Type the complete URL (including http://) of the web site you would like IQ to open when you click the image or text link in the Image Link web part.

My Schedule

By default, this web part displays a monthly calendar (to change the date) and your IQ schedule for the current date. You can configure the following options:

Use Calendar For This option provides a drop-down list of IQ calendars you have access to and defaults to your IQ schedule.

Display Monthly Calendar This option allows you to display or hide the Monthly Calendar. This calendar allows you to view events for another date. Note: If you choose to not display the Monthly Calendar, IQ will display a field for you to enter a date or select one from the calendar lookup.

Display Ending Time This option allows you to display or hide the event ending time.

Display Approved Events Only This option allows you to display only approved events (this is the default) or all events for the day.

Use Short Description Select this option if you would like IQ to display the short description instead of the event summary. Note: If you select this option and the short description field is empty, IQ will use the event summary.

Display Name in Title Bar Select this option if you would like IQ to display the calendar name (that you selected in the Use Calendar For setting) in the web part title bar on the My IQ page.

My Work

This web part provides the following additional display options:

Select Work Type This allows you to select which type of IQ records will be displayed in this web part.

Exclude if count=0 –  Select this if you would like IQ to only display the My Work links that report a count greater than zero. This provides a more streamlined list of actual work without unnecessary information.

Number of Columns  Click in this field and select the number of columns you would like IQ to display for this web part. This allows additional flexibility in sizing the web part to fit the overall layout of the My IQ page.

Recent People, Mail and Workflow

This web part allows you to select the types of recent records that are displayed. By default, Mail, People and Workflow records are displayed, however, you may also choose to display Board, Document, Event, Legislative, Vote or User Records as well as Workflow Templates.

RSS Feed

Allows you to receive information via an existing or custom configured RSS feed. More than one RSS feed can be configured for your My IQ page. You can view existing feeds that you may already have saved by clicking the Favorites icon in Internet Explorer 7. Click the link for the desired RSS feed and then click the View feed properties link on the right side of the page.  Copy and paste the URL in the feed properties into the RSS Feed URL text box in the Property Grid section of the web part editor.  Click the check box to hide or display the article summary.

It is recommended that an RSS Feed web part have a specific height defined.  The width will automatically adjust to the width of the zone into which the web part is added.  Setting a defined height will force a vertical scroll bar when the content is too large for the area defined.  This keeps RSS feed information from shifting other content on the page.

Top Issues and Workflow Types

The following additional options are available for this web part:

Display Type  Use this option to display just Mail Issues, Workflow Types or Both in the web part.

Number Displayed  You can limit the number of Mail Issues or Workflow Types to five or ten for the select number of days.

Number of Days Included   Select the number of days (7, 14, 21, 30, 45 or 90) that you would like IQ to use to calculate the mail issue and/or workflow types.

Note that the title of this web part is long and will limit the amount that the width of the web part can be narrowed.  Change the title to allow more flexibility when working with narrow columns. Also, the user preferences for Issue Code v. Translation or number of days do not apply to this web part.

weather.com

Enter the zip code that you would like IQ to display the current weather for.

Web Capture

Allows you to capture information in a specific element of an external web page – for example, a stock ticker or calendar of events.

How to configure Web Capture:

  1. Click the Edit icon for this web part.

  2. Type the complete URL of the desired site, beginning with http://, in the Web Page URL field.

  3. Click the Capture button to launch the web site in its own window. Note: The message "Cannot create or modify Web Capture. Make sure that your browser supports ActiveX controls, that you have enabled them, and that you have installed the Web Capture ActiveX control." appears if your workstation is not configured properly.

  4. Each identified element in the page will display with a yellow arrow.  Click the yellow arrow for the element to be captured. Click the OK button at the bottom of the Web Capture window.

  5. IQ automatically updates the Element Type and Capture fields.

  6. Click the Save button to display the captured elements on the My IQ page.

Note: This web part is not compatible with all web page structures and a certain amount of trial and error should be anticipated when setting up Web Capture.

Web Page

Allows an external web page to be displayed in a frame as part of the My IQ page. Type the complete URL of the desired site in the Web Page URL field in the Property Grid section of the editor. It is highly recommended that this web part be configured in either the header or the footer to allow the maximum width of the page to be used without disrupting the layout of the rest of the page.  Likewise, it is recommended that the default Chrome State is set to Minimized.  This will allow easy access to external content without overwhelming the rest of the My IQ page.

Web Searches

You may select one or more of the following searches: AOL, Ask.com, Google, Google News, Live.com, Lycos, USA.gov, House.gov, Senate.gov and Yahoo.  Web Searches may be added multiple times and each instance may be configured individually.  So, for example, you might add a Google News search to the header, and also add a House.gov search to one of the columns in the My IQ page.
