Splitting a List

You can split an existing list into smaller groups using the Split List action. Splitting a list simply creates smaller groupings of records from the master list associated with the original list. The number of records included in each split list is determined by the Split list size entered when creating split lists. Split lists can be created from any existing list, whether it is a Personal list or a previously executed Criteria Based list.

To split a list:

  1. Click the module tab and click the Lists submenu link.

  2. Search for the list you want to split.

  3. Select the check box next to the list you want to split and select the Split List action. IQ displays the Split Lists dialog.

  4. Enter the size of the split list (not less than 100) in the Split list size field. All split lists will contain the number of records you enter in this field, except for the last one, which will contain the remainder.

  5. Enter a name, up to 30 characters, such as "Split of ALL Workflow", in the Split Lists Name Prefix field. IQ will use this value for each split list name. If you leave this field blank, IQ will use the word "SPLIT" and the list name ID of the original list for each split list name.

  6. Click the Submit button. IQ displays the results of the split lists on the Lists Search Results page.

Split lists are named automatically, based on the value entered (or not entered) in the Split Lists Name Prefix field. The Split list size determines the maximum number of records to include in each of the resulting lists.  So, for example:

A split list does not include the criteria or list definition of the original list.  Like a Personal list or a Merge list, a split list record consists only of the records contained in the list.  As such, a split list cannot be re-executed.  In order to update a split list, you must re-execute the original list and split it again.

Split lists are sorted in the same order as the original parent list. So, if the parent list is sorted by zipcode, the split lists will also be sorted in zipcode order.
