Acting as Another User

IQ provides the ability for a user to act as another user. The user that is given "Act As" rights has full security rights of the user who granted it. In addition, everything that a user does while acting as another user is recorded under the name of the user that granted act as rights. Entries in the Status Logs as well as Workflow and Step notes are appended with "(User A acting as User B)" when User A is acting as User B. For example, if Bob Smith checked in a custom letter while acting as Chris Coleman, the Status Log panel in the Mail record would read:

04/25/2006 10:00:04 AM  Chris Coleman  Checked in Custom Letter (Bob Smith acting as Chris Coleman)

Use the Act As Setup action on the My IQ page to select the user or users that you want to give Act As rights to. The Act As Setup dialog also includes a log of who has acted as you sorted by the most recent Act As session. Note: If User A acts as User B, User A can not act as users who User B is allowed to act as. This is to prevent security issues that could easily be caused by "daisy chaining" multiple levels of act as.

To act as another user:

  1. Log into IQ with your user ID.

  2. Select the Act As (off) action from the My IQ page.

  3. The Act As Another User dialog will appear with a list of users that have granted you Act As rights.

  4. Click the user's name in the Select another user to 'act as' list box.

The Act As Another User dialog automatically closes and the action name changes from Act As (off) to Act As (on). The mouse hover text for the Act As (on) action and the Help icon both display the name of the user that your are currently acting as.

To end an act as session:

  1. Select the Act As (on) action from the My IQ page.

  2. The Act As Another User dialog box will appear.

  3. Click the End Act As Session button.

Note: The Act As action can be added as a Step Application in a workflow template for use in workflow records created from the template.
