Options in this section of the Automated Merge page let you choose to use last name alternatives when looking for household members.
Select No to identify records as belonging to the same household only when their last name matches exactly.
Select Yes when you want to consider separate words in multiple-word last names when identifying household matches. For example, a person with the last name of Smith or Jones-Smith would be identified as belonging to the same household as a person with the last name of Baker Smith or Smith-Johnson, if the addresses matched. Note that if more than two records are considered for householding, the order in which records are householded may in some instances exclude a record that should be added to the household. For example, three records, John Smith, Mary Jones, and Alice Smith-Jones, have the same address. Mary Jones does not match John Smith, so the records are not householded. When Alice Smith-Jones is considered, that record matches John Smith and is householded to it. The next time you run an auto merge, however, Mary Jones will be added to the household with the Alice Smith-Jones record.
Select Yes - Create Manual Merge/Household Set When Only Part of Last Name Matches when you want to place a record with a multiple-word last name and one with a single matching word in the Manual Merge list where you can review and manually household them.
When you select Yes or Create Manual Merge/Household Set..., all records with a word in the last name that matches the name of the destination head of household (determined by the entered date) will be found. Any record with a word in the last name that matches a member of the new household but not the head of household will not be found.
Select No to identify records as belonging to the same household only when their last names are spelled the same.
Select Yes if you want to identify records with last names having the same soundex value as belonging to the same household. This option households records in which the last name might have been entered with a slight misspelling. For example, the names Janson and Jansen have the same soundex. They would be householded if their ZIP Codes and addresses matched.
Select Create Manual Merge/Household Set When Soundex or Last Name Results in a Match when you want to place records with last names having the same soundex value in the Manual Merge list where you can review and manually household them.
Select Do Not Merge or Household to identify records as belonging to the same household only when their last names are spelled the same.
Select Household when you want to identify records whose e-mail addresses match, but whose last names do not match as belonging to the same household.
Select Create Manual Merge/Household Set when you want to place records whose e-mail addresses match, but whose last names do not match in the Manual Merge list where you can review and manually household them.
