Under certain circumstances, it is possible for e-mailed faxes to be processed by Intranet Mail Agent (IMA). The faxed image must be e-mailed as a TIF attachment to the IMA drop folder on your IQ server. IMA processes the messages (i.e. EML files) in the drop folder and makes various decisions including whether or not the incoming message is a Fax message. This determination is made by looking at the To: address. If the To: address begins with "Fax", the TIF attachment is placed in the designated directory for incoming Fax. An automatic service then passes the TIF image through an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) process. The resulting file is then e-mailed (along with the original TIF) to IMA where the name and address data from the OCR is parsed and processed using IMA Rules. Note: Fax e-mails that are sent to an Outlook account (for review and screening) can be processed by IMA if you forward them to the designated Fax Email Address for your IQ system.
Scanned images can be processed in a similar manner, except that the scanned image files (TIFs) must be manually placed into the office-designated directory on your IQ server or scanned into the directory by a scanner that has that capability. The TIF image files are then processed through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and sent to IMA. IMA then processes the image text based on IMA Rules setup by your office. Once the resulting record is posted to the IQ database, the scanned image file can be seen as an attachment.
